There is so much to appreciate at and about Middleton Hall. It was never a palace but it shows evidence of several phases of English domestic architecture from the late thirteenth to the early nineteenth century.

There is a fine Great hall that is
of Tudor origin, which makes a classic setting for weddings, performances and
parties. The Hall was the home of some notable people and was visited by many
figures from history. Included among these is Queen Elizabeth 1, who
certaininly spent two nights under its roof after the festivities at Kenilworth
in 1575. More importantly it has a special place in the history of British
science. It was here the first ever scientific book on ornithology was written
and the first substantial catalogue of British plants compiled.
In addition, The Peel Society has
its unique collection of Peel memorabilia on show at the hall.
Middleton Hall, the grounds,
featuring a site of special scientific interest (SSSI), including a nine acre
lake, and a noted Walled Garden, are open to the public from Easter to the end
of September, Sunday's and Bank Holiday Monday's. Other days, by private
appointment. There is a small charge for entry and for special events. An adjacent
Craft Centre, including a cafe is open from Wednesday to Sunday all year round.
